Bianca Andreescu defeated Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6–3, 7–6 at the Rome Masters (WTA 1000) on clay in the first round on 11 May 2022, as expected given her status as the heavy favourite. Andreescu controlled the opening set with relative ease before Parrizas Diaz mounted a stronger challenge in the second, forcing a tiebreak that the Canadian ultimately secured. The result kept Andreescu's campaign at the Italian capital on track as she advanced to the round of 16.
