Anthony Pettis vs Bart Palaszewski — Fight recap

Bart Palaszewski defeated Anthony Pettis via split decision after three rounds on December 19, 2009, in a lightweight bout that showcased contrasting approaches. Pettis landed 39 significant strikes at a 40% clip and scored a knockdown, but struggled with volume and accuracy, connecting on just 33 of 87 head strikes.

Palaszewski controlled the fight with superior cage positioning, accumulating 6:31 of control time compared to Pettis's 0:19, while landing 29 significant strikes at 51% efficiency and successfully executing one takedown. The striking disparity—Palaszewski's 51% accuracy versus Pettis's 40%—proved decisive despite the young Pettis's early aggression and knockdown.

The split decision reflected the judges' difficulty in parsing Pettis's offensive output against Palaszewski's dominance in fight control and positioning. The loss marked a notable setback for the rising prospect Pettis, who would need to refine his striking timing and defensive wrestling in subsequent bouts.
