Anthony Pettis vs Michael Chiesa — Fight recap

Anthony Pettis submitted Michael Chiesa via rear-naked choke in the second round at 0:52 on July 7, 2018, with referee Herb Dean officiating. Despite landing fewer significant strikes (9 of 22, 40%) than Chiesa (12 of 26, 46%), Pettis capitalized on a scramble to secure the finish after accumulating just 1:03 of control time.

Chiesa had dominated the grappling exchanges, converting 2 of 6 takedown attempts for 33% accuracy and controlling the fight for 2:39, but Pettis' submission threat—logging two sub attempts—proved decisive when it mattered most. The victory marked a significant statement in the welterweight division, as Pettis rebounded from recent struggles with a high-level finish over a dangerous grappler.
