Frankie Edgar vs Jose Aldo — Fight recap

Jose Aldo defeated Frankie Edgar by unanimous decision over five rounds on July 9, 2016, in their featherweight title rematch. Edgar landed 79 significant strikes on 29% accuracy while attempting 11 takedowns without success, unable to establish any meaningful control time.

Aldo proved more efficient, connecting on 80 significant strikes at a 41% clip and controlling the cage for 1:11 across the bout. The Brazilian's superior striking precision—particularly to the head with 68 of 174 attempts—combined with his defensive wrestling set the tone throughout.

Edgar's volume output couldn't overcome Aldo's cleaner combinations and technical superiority, as all three judges favored the champion. The result reinforced Aldo's dominance at featherweight despite Edgar's relentless pressure and output.
