Match report
Pat Sabatini defeated Jamall Emmers by submission at 1:53 of Round 1, overcoming an early striking deficit to secure the quick finish. Emmers was far more efficient on the feet, landing 10 of 14 significant strikes at a 71% rate, while Sabatini connected on just 1 of 9 attempts.
Emmers did his best work to the body, landing all six of his body strikes, and briefly appeared to control the exchanges with cleaner offense and forward pressure. The tactical balance shifted as soon as the featherweights engaged in grappling, however.
Emmers recorded 49 seconds of control time and attempted one submission, but Sabatini remained dangerous through the transitions and generated two submission attempts of his own. Neither fighter scored a knockdown, and Sabatini failed on his only official takedown attempt, yet he capitalized on the scramble that mattered and forced the stoppage before the two-minute mark.
The result strengthened Sabatini’s position as a rising featherweight and set up a step forward in competition.
