Jose Aldo vs Petr Yan — Fight recap

Petr Yan defeated Jose Aldo by KO/TKO in round five at 3:24, claiming the interim bantamweight title on July 11, 2020. Yan's superior volume and precision overwhelmed Aldo across five rounds, landing 194 significant strikes at 62% accuracy compared to Aldo's 83 of 157.

The Russian dominated the striking exchanges with 150 head strikes landed and secured one takedown while controlling the cage for 4:50, establishing control that Aldo could never counter. Aldo managed respectable body work, landing 28 of 39 attempts, but couldn't generate the takedown he needed, failing on his lone attempt.

Yan's relentless forward pressure and technical striking—including a perfect 9-of-9 leg strike accuracy—broke down the aging champion until the fifth-round finish. The victory positioned Yan as the clear bantamweight title contender against the reigning champion.
