Mauricio Rua vs Tyson Pedro — Fight recap

Mauricio Rua defeated Tyson Pedro by KO/TKO in the third round at 0:43 on December 1, 2018. Despite Pedro's superior striking efficiency at 70% (31 of 44 significant strikes) compared to Rua's 53% (30 of 56), Rua's wrestling prowess and octagon control proved decisive.

Rua landed three takedowns at a 60% rate and accumulated 5:20 of control time while Pedro managed none, establishing a grappling advantage that wore down his opponent. Rua also scored a knockdown during the fight, which contributed to the momentum shift heading into the third round.

Pedro's early striking output couldn't overcome Rua's wrestling-based game plan and superior cage positioning. The victory marked a significant rebound for Rua in the light heavyweight division after previous setbacks.
