Yoel Romero

Yoel Romero holds a 13-5-0 professional record with a 4-4 mark across his eight most recent fights, competing as a southpaw middleweight at 6'0" and 185 pounds. The Cuban striker operates as a measured offensive force, landing 3.44 strikes per minute with 49% accuracy while maintaining solid defensive positioning at 60% strike defense.

Romero's wrestling remains a secondary tool, averaging 1.57 takedown attempts per 15 minutes at just 30% accuracy, though he excels at stuffing opponent takedowns with a 78% defense rate. His recent resume reflects inconsistent form: he secured notable knockout victories over Chris Weidman (Nov. 2016, Round 3) and Lyoto Machida (Jun. 2015, Round 3), but suffered consecutive decision losses to Robert Whittaker in 2017 and 2018, followed by a unanimous decision defeat to Israel Adesanya in March 2020.

Romero's striking approach emphasizes precision over volume, relying on counter opportunities rather than sustained pressure, while his inability to finish fights via submission (0.0 per 15 minutes) limits his finish rate despite occasional knockout power. His current divisional standing remains uncertain following the Adesanya loss, leaving questions about his relevance in the middleweight title picture.
