Demetrious Johnson vs Dominick Cruz — Fight recap

Dominick Cruz defeated Demetrious Johnson by unanimous decision over five rounds on October 1, 2011, controlling the striking exchanges and wrestling throughout. Cruz landed 60 significant strikes at 50% accuracy while Johnson managed 63 at just 35%, but the decisive factor was grappling dominance: Cruz executed 10 takedowns at 52% efficiency and accumulated 12:41 of control time compared to Johnson's single successful takedown and 2:55 of control.

Johnson's striking volume couldn't compensate for Cruz's superior cage control and wrestling pressure, which dictated the pace across all five rounds. The loss marked a setback for Johnson's flyweight aspirations, while Cruz's performance reinforced his status as a top bantamweight contender.
