Mackenzie Dern vs Marina Rodriguez — Fight recap

Marina Rodriguez dominated Mackenzie Dern across five rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory on October 9, 2021, at UFC Fight Night. Rodriguez controlled the striking exchanges decisively, landing 144 significant strikes at a 51% accuracy rate compared to Dern's 49 strikes at just 28%, while also connecting on 33 of 35 leg kicks to systematically break down her opponent's base.

Dern's wrestling proved ineffective, converting only 1 of 8 takedown attempts while Rodriguez stayed composed on the feet, accumulating just 10 seconds of bottom control time. The Brazilian striker's volume and precision—particularly her body and leg work—carried every round, with judges awarding Rodriguez all five rounds.

The loss marked a significant setback for Dern's welterweight campaign and elevated Rodriguez's status as a legitimate contender in the division.
